How to have a clearer sense of self? By not identifying yourself with your mind, writes Eckhart Tolle in his awesome book Power of Now.

Let’s say you discuss with someone. Your opinions differ. Do you get defensive or angry?

What do you need to defend or get angry about? You are talking about opinions. You have thoughts. They are not who you are.

When you stop identifying yourself with your mind, you can express yourself clearly and firmly, but without fear. You tell what you feel, and what thoughts you have. But you don’t get angry or defensive if others’ feelings or thoughts differ.

They are just feelings and thoughts, not who you are. You are the observer of the thoughts and feelings.

This is the end of power struggles, arguments and insults.

Power over others is weakness disguised as strength. True power is within, and it is available to you now.
